More About PlantNet Plant Identification

Pl@ntNet is an application that allows you to identify plants simply by photographing them with your smartphone. Very useful when you don't have a botanist on hand! Pl@ntNet is also a great citizen science project: all the plants you photograph are collected and analysed by scientists around the world to better understand the evolution of plant biodiversity and to better preserve it.

Welcome to Pl@ntNet, the ultimate app for all plant enthusiasts! With this app, you can easily identify and learn about various plants found in nature, including flowering plants, trees, grasses, conifers, ferns, vines, wild salads, and cacti. While Pl@ntNet can also identify cultivated plants found in parks and gardens, its main focus is on wild plants. We need your help to inventory these wild plants, whether they are found in nature, on city sidewalks, or even in your own vegetable garden!

The key to accurate identification with Pl@ntNet is providing as much visual information as possible. Many plants may look similar from a distance, but it's the small details that can distinguish two species within the same genus. That's why it's important to photograph the most characteristic organs of a plant, such as flowers, fruits, and leaves. However, any other details like thorns, buds, or hair on the stem can also be helpful. While a photo of the entire plant or tree is useful, it may not always be enough for a reliable identification.

Currently, Pl@ntNet can recognize approximately 20,000 species. While this is a significant number, it's still a long way from the 360,000 species that exist on Earth. But with the help of our dedicated users, Pl@ntNet is constantly growing and improving. We encourage you to contribute your own observations, which will be reviewed by the community and may even be featured in the app's photo gallery.

The latest version of Pl@ntNet, released in January 2019, comes with several exciting improvements and new features. These include the ability to filter recognized species by genus or family, a differentiated data revision that gives more weight to skilled users, and the re-identification of shared observations. You can also search for a photographed plant in all the floras within the app, select your favorite floras for quicker access, and navigate through different taxonomic levels in image galleries. Additionally, you can map your observations and access links to various factsheets.

But that's not all - Pl@ntNet also has a web version available at https://identify.plantnet.org/. So whether you're out in nature or sitting at your computer, you can easily identify and learn about all kinds of plants with Pl@ntNet. So what are you waiting for? Download the app and start exploring the wonderful world of plants today!
